Nonverbal features in the online market

The internet market is almost swallowing the traditional market now. Among the contributing lists, the communication between the online shoppers  and the shopping homepage cannot be underestimated. In many communication theories, it has been repeatedly stated that nonverbal communication takes 63-93% of a given interaction. In the same way, it is also stated that the nonverbal communication is 5 times stronger than the verbal ones. To put it in simple terms, if a spoken statement is true but the accompanied nonverbal cues are false, the statement is very likely to be false and unbelievable.  However, if the spoken statement is false but the accompanied nonverbal cues are true, then the statement becomes true and acceptable. Taking this simple matrix in to the internet market, one could ask what nonverbal features accompany the online market communication. The following are some nonverbal features I have observed.

            Pictures of the objects

In many online shops, the pictures of the object are of significant value. They are presented in different sides and styles so that the online shoppers could  sense or feel them psychologically.

Mixed colored phrases

A minimum of ten colors are used in the average. Almost everything is written with a different color. The color of the price, for example, is different from the name of the items, details, and numbers.

Good-looking people

People of different age, color, race, and style are part of the online homepage. Almost all people in the online shops are young, fit looking and good-looking.

Smiley face

The people in the online shops homepage are very often smiley. They all have emotions that are very welcoming. All their acts are very catchy.

Space

The items are put in such a way that they can attract their viewers. There is a significant distance between each item.

Fonts and boldness

The words are written in different fonts face and size. Some of the words are very bald and some are very small to the extent that one can hardly read them without vision support.

Silence

Online shoppers are not overwhelmed by nonstop explanations of the items they like to buy as it is the case in the traditional market which utilizes direct sale strategies.

Are these the only nonverbal communication features in the online marketing that create the imbalance between  the verbal and nonverbal communications?  What ever the case, among other things, these and other nonverbal features have undoubtedly contributed for the emerged online business transactions. What do you say?

The nonverbal communications of your domain name in the internet world

Do you know that your domain name is one of the nonverbal elements of your communication in the internet? You may not intend it to nonverbally communicate but there are multiple untended communications which more often than not  are stronger and more powerful than the intended ones. It is evidenced in a scenario when you tend to hate or like a person without exchanging words, which may be something that surprises you after the verbal communication is started. “I thought you were very reserved” is one of the likely comments made after a relationship is established, is it not?
You domain in the internet world communicates nonverbally quite a lot. www.yourname.com or www.yourbusinessname.com communicates primarily your status. Simply put people never see websites with domain names in the same way they see websites without. Unintentionally or you can call it “first impression”, they attach extended meanings to the website just because of the domain name.  They stay for whatever time on your homepage with some sense of respect and hence are seriously observing with full intent because you sound professional and credible to them. By extension, it is likely for your visitors to trust, remember and recommend your domain to others which is becoming an emerging trend now.
Nonverbally, your domain name has created you this identity whether you have wanted it or not. For you it is like your home. Of course your home after all you owe it. Nobody can touch your domain name but you unless you share it with someone. Now computer and internet are becoming vitally important. Nonverbal communication and the booming online market

As equal as the verbal features, nonverbal cues are used as one means of communication. We express feeling, emotions, thoughts, even ideologies through a variety of nonverbal means. The roles of nonverbal communication in our daily routines have been exhaustively researched. Far from our expectation, 93% of our daily communication is carried out via our nonverbal behaviors. Only 7% of our communication takes place through the verbal features. Communication through our eyes, facial expressions, hand gestures, eye movements, body movement, clothing, hairstyle and others can either way influence others and establish or maintain relationships in the course of our interpersonal or business exchange.

In the business world, the name of the business, place where it is situated, paintings and item set up, the lightings, and the look and appearance of the employees are nonverbal elements that deserve significant attention for the smooth, healthy, and productive business interaction. Owing to these, business owners are observed to have the consciousness of these nonverbal elements in their business. In the newly emerging online business world, the interaction is merely nonverbal. For example, there is no can-I-help-you to start with. Online shoppers are welcomed by a homepage full of side ads and items with their price tags. Many seem to have a problem to comprehend the chaotic homepage and as a result of which they focus on what they are up to without staying on the home page for a while. However, just like the traditional market, it is still possible to positively influence homepage visitors through the proper application of nonverbal features, don’t you?
